Company History

Einstein Moomjy traces its beginning to an apartment atop a butcher shop in Bloomfield New Jersey. Working from this start in 1948, Theodore Einstein, an immigrant from WWII Europe worked tirelessly selling hand made rugs. This focus required Ted to work with top merchants of the rug trade and quickly a relationship developed between Ted and Albert Moomjy. Together, these two young men started a partnership and established Einstein Moomjy with the opening of their first store in Bloomfield in 1955.

The store quickly gained the attention of discriminating shoppers and grew serving the expanding local market during the 50s. Seeking help with their growing business, the two founders turned to their respective brothers, Ernst Einstein and Walter Moomjy for help. Together, this group of enterprising young men set out to develop Einstein Moomjy and soon two more stores opened. By 1966 the firm counted four New Jersey stores, with locations in Bloomfield, Whippany, Plainfield and Paramus offering everything from Broadloom to fine Orientals.

The foundation for a headquarters was established with the opening of the Paramus location. The original store was conveniently located on Route 17 North and set the standard for the modern day shopper of the time, offering professional service and superb selection. The four partners had not completed their vision yet and focused their efforts on developing an exclusive store in Manhattan. By 1980 the firm officially added its presence to the New York City market and has served the community ever since.

Today the showroom locations have changed a little and the Warehouse has become both a busy distribution center and market bazaar for the now famous "Moomsday" Warehouse Sales. The headquarters are still in Paramus, just across the street from the original store, except now it's dramatically larger, and features an additional furniture only showroom, making it the only carpet and furniture complex of its kind in the Metro Area. The founding partners now number one, Walter Moomjy, who together with his dedicated staff carry on the rich tradition of Einstein Moomjy.
